Finishing What the Builder Started
Forney is growing faster than almost any town we serve, and that shapes the work we do there as concrete contractors. The city counted 14,661 people in 2010 and 23,455 in 2020. Wikipedia lists a 2025 estimate of 41,658. Most of that growth is new subdivisions, and new homes tend to come with the minimum: a standard driveway, a small back slab and a short walk to the front door. Homeowners call us to add the rest.
A town with old roots and new streets
Forney was founded in 1871 and incorporated in 1884, named after John W. Forney. The Texas Legislature named it the Antique Capital of Texas. It sits in northwestern Kaufman County, about four miles southeast of Lake Ray Hubbard, and U.S. 80 runs through town as a four-lane limited-access highway, about 20 miles from central Dallas. City Hall and Hamblen Park sit in the older downtown, while the new neighborhoods spread out around it.
The most common Forney projects
Extending the back patio. Builder patios are often just big enough for a grill. We pour an extension that ties into the existing slab with dowels, or a separate slab with an isolation joint if the old one has moved. Either way, the finished surface drains away from the house.
Widening the driveway. Families with three cars, a boat or a work truck often want a strip added to one side, or a parking pad. We match the thickness and finish of the existing drive as closely as fresh concrete allows and plan joints so the two pours move together.
Stamped walkways and patios. A plain gray slab can be replaced or extended with stamped, colored concrete in a stone or brick pattern. It is sealed after curing and resealed every few years.
Pool decks. New pools need decks, and we pour them with a textured, slip-resistant finish and expansion joints at the coping.
Shed and playhouse slabs. A small pad with a compacted base keeps a storage building level for years.
New homes still sit on moving clay
It is easy to assume a young slab will stay flat. In the Blackland Prairie it does not always. The dark clay here swells after heavy rain and shrinks and cracks in dry spells. New subdivisions add another wrinkle: lots are graded and filled during construction, and fill that was not compacted well can settle for years. We dig and probe before adding concrete next to a builder slab, and we compact our own base rather than trusting what is already there.
The 2012 tornado
On April 3, 2012, an EF3 tornado struck Forney. It destroyed several homes in the Diamond Creek subdivision and damaged the roof of Crosby Elementary School. Rebuilding after storms brings heavy trucks, dumpsters and cranes onto driveways, and those loads can crack slabs that were never designed for them. If you have a driveway that cracked during roof or rebuild work, we can tell you whether it needs a few panels replaced or more.
HOA approvals
If your subdivision has a homeowners association, it may have rules on driveway width, patio size and materials. We give you a written scope and drawing you can submit, and we wait for approval before we pour. We also check whether the City of Forney needs a permit for your project.
Antique town, older blocks
Forney has been the Antique Capital of Texas by act of the Texas Legislature, and the older streets near City Hall and Hamblen Park look the part. Homes there are on a different clock from the subdivisions: narrow driveways, front walks with a step or two up to the porch, and slabs that have been patched before. On those blocks we tend to rebuild steps with even risers, replace sunken walk panels on a fresh base, and widen single-car drives where the lot allows. The aim is concrete that suits the age of the house rather than a new-subdivision look.

Forney Questions
Will a patio extension in Forney match my builder slab?
New concrete is always a little lighter at first and weathers toward the old color. We match the finish and joint pattern so the extension looks planned. Stamped or stained finishes can hide the difference completely.
Do I need HOA approval before adding concrete?
In many Forney neighborhoods, yes. We give you a scope and sketch to submit, and we do not pour until you have approval in hand.
My new-build driveway already has cracks. Is that normal?
Hairline shrinkage cracks are common in young concrete. Wide, offset or growing cracks usually point to base or fill problems. We can look and tell you which you have.
