A Small Town That Tripled

Fate is in the center of Rockwall County, about 4.8 miles east of downtown Rockwall, and few towns we visit as concrete contractors have changed as quickly. The census counted 6,357 people in 2010 and 17,958 in 2020, an increase of more than 180 percent. Wikipedia lists a 2023 estimate of 24,626. Subdivisions such as Woodcreek, which began in the 1970s, and Williamsburg account for much of the housing.

The old Fate

Fate was settled shortly after the Civil War. A separate town called Barnes grew up where downtown is now, and the MKT railroad came through it in 1886. Fate and Barnes merged on February 11, 1887. Fires hit the business district in 1906 and 1910, a tornado struck in 1933, and by 1950 only about 150 people lived here. Worthy Fate High School is set to open in August 2027, a sign of how recent the comeback is.

What Fate homeowners ask for

Patio extensions. Builder patios are usually small. We extend them, or replace them with one larger slab, sloped away from the house.

Stamped concrete. A stamped and colored patio or front walk is one of the easiest ways to set a house apart in a newer subdivision.

Driveway additions. Side strips and parking pads for extra vehicles, tied into the existing drive.

Pool decks. Textured, slip-resistant decks with expansion joints at the coping.

Slabs. Pads for sheds, pergolas and play sets.

Repair. Crack sealing and replacement of panels that have dropped near the garage or street.

Building on graded lots

Most of Fate's newer homes sit on lots that were cut and filled during development. Under that fill is Blackland Prairie clay that swells when wet and shrinks when dry. Together, those two facts explain most of the cracking we see in young slabs here. Before we pour next to an existing slab, we check whether it is stable, and we build a compacted base under all new work. We also look closely at drainage, because water that pools at a slab edge softens the ground and invites settling.

HOA rules and plans

Many Fate subdivisions have HOAs with rules on driveway width, patio placement and finish colors. We put your project in writing with a simple layout you can submit, and we wait for approval before scheduling. We also check whether the City of Fate requires a permit. Summer pours start at daybreak, and stamped work in particular gets careful curing so the texture stays crisp.

Repairs on Woodcreek-era concrete

Woodcreek dates back to the 1970s, so some of its driveways and walks are far older than the newer streets nearby. On those, we often find panels that have dropped at the garage, joints that have opened and walks that have tipped toward the yard. We replace the failed sections on a fresh compacted base and leave the sound panels alone, which keeps the repair focused and the cost reasonable.

Planning ahead

If you plan to add a pool or outdoor kitchen later, tell us now. We can leave room in the layout, place sleeves for future plumbing or electrical under the slab, and set the grade so later additions tie in cleanly. That planning costs little at the start and saves cutting new concrete later.

School walks and family yards

Fate's schools sit inside its neighborhoods: Billie Stevenson Elementary is in Woodcreek and Lupe Garcia Elementary is in Williamsburg, and Royse City ISD is building Worthy Fate High School on the north side of town. Many kids walk or bike to school on neighborhood sidewalks and use the driveway as a play area. For those households we pay attention to trip edges at walk joints, a broom finish with real grip on slopes, and flat backyard slabs for bikes and a basketball hoop.

Fate Questions

Can you pour a stamped patio in a Fate subdivision with an HOA?

Usually, yes. We give you a scope, color and pattern information and a layout to submit. Once the HOA approves, we schedule the pour.

Why is my young driveway in Fate already cracking?

Fill that settled after construction and clay soil movement are the common causes. Hairline cracks are normal, but wide or offset cracks point to base problems we can assess.

Can you leave room for a future outdoor kitchen?

Yes. We can place sleeves under the slab for future gas, water or electrical lines and size the slab for the counters and appliances.
